In our July newsletter , we reinforced this fact for marketers … words have meaning! And in that, the first in a series of two articles, we plugged Google Trends as a valuable tool to find the right words to motivate your customers as well as understand how your market fluctuates over time.
Your payoff is to respond with words consumers prefer when seeking your offerings, and how seasonal cycles … and more recently the C-19 pandemic … may influence buyers’ behaviors. The objective is to stay on top of the keyword searches most likely to drive traffic and deliver qualified buyers to your website.
In this issue, we’ll offer several results from three searches by marketers. As a preface, we suggest you read or refresh your past reading of the initial article in this series . That will deliver a sound foundation for what follows, as well as a roadmap to begin your exploration of Google Trends.
Knowing what people search for when seeking a product or service can make or break your marketing success. As an example, there is a widespread, highly competitive profession dedicated to the creation and care of websites. Given the competitive nature of this niche B2B industry, it’s key that the “players” remain diligent in staying aware how the buying public defines them as vendors.
So, we fired up Google Trends to take a look at a comparison of the terms … web designer and web developer to see which may generate more search activity for this service. Please invest a moment to view the following graphic representations of the Google Trend results.
Consider these conclusions:
Website professionals … consider branding yourself as the stronger of these two search terms.
One more example , this time with a B2C business … residential yard maintenance. Here’s how a Google Trend comparison pans out. Our search term comparisons are landscapers near me and lawn care near me .
Clearly, the term landscaper attracts a significantly smaller audience than lawn care. Perhaps people relate to landscapers as more of a high-end service for affluent homeowners and are likely to seek getting the lawn mowed and edged rather than a more robust caring for their property.
From a planning standpoint, predictably the graph illustrates the seasonally cyclical nature of the business. So, purchasing, staffing and scheduling may be accurately forecasted.
If C-19 had any effect on this industry, it’s not readily visible from Google Trends.
Now for a change of pace, let’s take a look at Google Trends results for plumbers near me . As the graph below illustrates, this business doesn’t appear to be subject to seasonally predictable cycles. That also is evident when it comes to the current health and economic coronavirus scourge.
So, plumbers … the recommendation seems to be … be prepared ! Your services are sought pretty much on a regular basis.
Google Trends search feature shows the popularity of a search term in Google. You can view whether a trend is on the rise or declining. You can also find demographic insights, related topics, and queries to help you better understand the Google search trends. Understanding and mastering its use will add significant power to maintain and increase your visibility when the buying public searches for what you deliver.
Invest the less than 4 minutes it will take you to read last month’s introduction to Google Trends . Then, armed with that knowledge, visit Google Trends and see how your business will benefit. Alternatively, give us a call and we’ll help you capitalize on this powerful tool.
